We headed out to the lake today during lunch. I wacky rigged a worm and tossed it out, but while I was working that first cast I noticed a LMB right next to the bank about 20 feet down from where I was. As I was reeling in he moved up right next to the rocks where I couldn't see him anymore. I pitched my bait right to where he was but about a foot and half out. I watched as the bait started to sink and out he came to check it out. With no hesitation, he picked it up and started heading for deeper water. I set the hook and landed my first bass via site-fishing.
Towards the end of our time there, I was walking along the bank on the other side, pitching in front of where I was walking. I had just taken some video of James landing a nice bass and was still kind of day-dreaming about catching a nice one like that. As I was walking I noticed a traffic cone submerged in the water about 2 feet from the bank. When I saw it I thought, "Now that's a good spot to find a bass." I figured I'd reel in and pitch towards the cone, and that's when I realized my line wasn't where I thought it was. Here I was day-dreaming and looking at structure while my line was swimming out towards deeper water.
.......
WHAT!?!?!
I started cracking up. It turns out I had already pitched my bait right at the cone without knowing it and a bass actually had been there and had grabbed my bait and was trying to make off with it. I set the hook and landed him, but was giggling so much I forgot to take a picture of him. I still laugh when I think about it.
So, having caught 3 bass between the two of us at lunch we decided to head back after work to do a little night fishing.
James hooked up almost immediately with a monster. I'd estimate him at 5 lbs, at least.
Then a few minutes later I hooked up with one several yards away and had the privledge of watching him dump my bait. *sigh*
After getting snagged and re-rigging I figured I'd try for that guy one more time before moving on. I cast my line out toward where he had been when he dumped my hook, brought the line in about 10 feet, and there he was waiting for me.
James went on to catch 2 or 3 more, and after about 2 more hours I headed home.
3 LMB in one day. That's a personal best for me so far. And between the two of us, we landed 7 or 8 out of that little lake today. Not bad for a cold day.
